Unshaven hair transplant Dubai

Long Hair FUE, also called unshaven FUE or U-FUE, is a hair transplant technique performed without shaving the donor or recipient areas. Follicular units are extracted with the hair shaft left at its existing length and implanted the same way, so the transplanted hair is visible immediately and surrounding hair conceals the treated area. It is chosen for discretion, and typically handles 800 to 2,500 grafts per session.

The Technique

What Is Long Hair FUE?

In a standard FUE procedure the donor area is clipped to about a millimetre so that follicular units can be seen, angled and punched accurately. Long Hair FUE removes that step. Units are extracted through hair left at its full existing length — which is considerably harder, because the surgeon must judge the angle of a follicle beneath the skin while working around the shafts above it.

The grafts are then implanted with their hair still attached. Two things follow from that. First, the surrounding long hair immediately covers the recipient area, so there is nothing visible to anyone. Second, you see an approximate preview of your result on the day of surgery rather than waiting a year to find out where the hair will sit.

The trade-off is throughput. Extraction is slower, graft handling is more delicate because the shaft can be used to damage the follicle if mishandled, and sessions are usually capped between 800 and 2,500 grafts. It is a technique chosen for discretion, not for maximum coverage.

Nothing shaved. Nothing to explain.

Treatment Areas

Long Hair FUE (Unshaven) for Hair, Beard and Eyebrows

The same technique is executed differently in each area — graft size, implantation angle and density all change with the zone being treated.

Hair & Scalp

Best suited to hairline refinement, temple restoration and adding density into existing thinning hair rather than covering fully bald zones — long native hair is needed around the recipient area to do the concealing. Frontal work is where it delivers its greatest visual value.

Beard & Moustache

Beard cases suit unshaven work naturally, since the donor is on the scalp and the recipient beard hair is short by definition. Patients with an existing partial beard can have gaps filled with no visible downtime.

Eyebrows

Brow transplants are inherently unshaven — the recipient area is never shaved, and only a small donor patch is needed. With Long Hair FUE that donor patch is harvested through full-length hair, leaving no trimmed square at the back of the head.

Candidacy

Is Long Hair FUE (Unshaven) Right for You?

You Are Likely a Good Candidate If

  • Public-facing professionals who cannot take visible downtime
  • Patients with enough surrounding hair length to conceal the recipient area
  • Hairline and temple work rather than full crown coverage
  • Anyone whose primary concern is that nobody finds out
  • Women, for whom shaving is very rarely acceptable

This May Not Be the Right Technique If

  • Advanced hair loss requiring more than roughly 2,500 grafts
  • Very short current hairstyles with nothing to conceal with
  • Patients prioritising the lowest cost per graft
  • Extensive crown restoration, where shaved FUE is far more efficient

How Long Hair FUE (Unshaven) Is Performed, Step by Step

1

Consultation & Feasibility Check

We confirm your current hair length is sufficient to conceal the recipient area and that your graft requirement fits within an unshaven session.

2

Donor Sectioning

Hair is parted and clipped away in sections to expose small working windows, allowing extraction without trimming any hair.

3

Long Hair Extraction

Units are punched with the shaft intact. Slower and more demanding than shaven FUE, and the main reason the technique carries a premium.

4

Careful Graft Handling

Grafts are sorted and stored with shafts protected — long hair makes follicles easier to damage through traction, so handling discipline is critical.

5

Implantation Through Existing Hair

Sites are opened between native hairs without damaging them, and grafts are placed with their length intact, matched to the direction of the surrounding hair.

6

Same-Day Preview

Because the transplanted hair is already grown, you leave with a visual approximation of your final hairline — subject to the shedding phase that follows.

Honest Assessment

Benefits and Considerations

Benefits

  • Nothing is shaved — no visible sign that surgery took place
  • Return to work and social life within days
  • An immediate approximate preview of your final hairline
  • The recipient area is concealed by your own hair from day one
  • The only realistic surgical option for most women
  • Ideal for adding density between existing hairs

Considerations

  • Fewer grafts per session than shaven FUE
  • Longer procedure time and a higher cost per graft
  • Requires an experienced surgeon — technically the most demanding extraction method
  • Transplanted hairs still shed between weeks two and six, exactly as in any transplant
  • Not suitable for large bald areas with no surrounding hair to conceal the work

Recovery

Your Recovery and Growth Timeline

  1. Day 1

Recipient area is concealed by your own hair. Sleep semi-upright and avoid any traction on the transplanted hair.

  2. Days 2–3

Most patients return to work. Gentle washing begins per the clinic protocol.

  3. Days 4–10

Fine crusting clears beneath the hair. Styling products remain off-limits.

  4. Weeks 2–6

The transplanted long hairs shed. Expect the preview to disappear — this is normal, and the follicle remains.

  5. Months 3–4

New growth begins, this time from the follicle itself.

  6. Months 12–18

Final density and texture, documented at your twelve-month review.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I really have a hair transplant without shaving?

Yes. In Long Hair FUE neither the donor nor the recipient area is shaved. Hair is parted into working sections so units can be extracted through full-length hair, and grafts are implanted with the shaft attached. The limitation is graft numbers, not feasibility.

Will anyone be able to tell?

That is the point of the technique. Your existing hair covers the recipient area immediately, and there is no shaved donor patch. Most patients return to work within two to three days with no explanation required.

How many grafts can be done unshaven?

Typically 800 to 2,500 per session. Beyond that, the time required makes a shaved or partially shaved approach far more practical. Larger cases can be staged across two unshaven sessions.

Does the transplanted long hair stay?

No — and this surprises patients who see their same-day preview. The transplanted hairs shed between weeks two and six like those in any transplant technique. The follicle beneath remains and produces new growth from month three to four onwards.

Why is Long Hair FUE more expensive?

Extraction through full-length hair is significantly slower and more technically demanding, sessions run seven to ten hours, and graft handling requires more staff time. The premium reflects surgical time, not a different material cost.

Is unshaven FUE suitable for women?

It is usually the only acceptable option for women, and female density work — widening parts, restoring temples, thickening a thinning crown — is one of its most common applications. Female pattern loss must be properly diagnosed first, since many cases are medical rather than surgical.
